Agents Whitepaper

Google published a new whitepaper that explores the fundamental architecture and capabilities of Generative AI agents. The paper introduces agents as programs that extend beyond standalone AI models by combining reasoning, logic, and access to external information through tools.

The whitepaper details three essential components of agents: the model (central decision maker), tools (extensions, functions, and data stores that enable real-world interactions), and the orchestration layer (cognitive architecture for reasoning and planning).

Through frameworks like ReAct and Chain-of-Thought, agents can autonomously process information, make decisions, and execute complex tasks by leveraging both their internal knowledge and external tools. The paper also covers implementation approaches including the use of LangChain for prototyping and Vertex AI for production-grade applications, demonstrating how these components work together to create powerful AI systems that can engage with the real world.
